Areas: My main area of focus is the relationship between the beginning of the COVID19 pandemic (which we are still currently fighting against) and people’s relationship with food. I want to get a sense of how people first started acting with the new territory we were facing and adapting to together. While I understand this is a history research assignment, I am viewing this in the historical impact it will undoubtedly have on our society even in its contemporary nature.

Social Background: Of course, this is a loaded question with many factors in play. Some of the main highlights in this video are in response to the pandemic itself, the rapid advancement of technology and our use of it, social justice reform and promotion and mental health advocacy and awareness.

Highlights: We discuss how new guidelines helped us navigate the beginning of the pandemic. We also discuss new skills we have gained or even old skills that we found a new passion for. There is also discussion of the social impacts the pandemic had on our communities here in the Midwest as well as our mental health.

Influential Factors: We discuss how advancements in technology give rise and awareness to new foods to try, which foods and products were heavily focused on during the beginning of the pandemic. We also discuss how our various community circles changed and how we were able to stay in contact with our other members.

Implications: The ongoing implications of the pandemic are increasingly evident. Remote work is gaining more acceptance, but pioneers in this area are retracting their intentions, leading to another significant shift. The food industry faces numerous challenges, compounded by post-precaution public demands. People have developed new cooking skills and reconnected with their culture and heritage.

Educational Practices: The multifaceted impact of these changes on adult education practices is noteworthy. Initiatives should encourage adults to openly discuss the collective trauma experienced during the pandemic. Addressing unresolved feelings is crucial, even for those not directly affected. Additionally, there's a need to focus on technology etiquette and inclusivity, providing adults with a solid foundation in technology use. This presents an opportunity to continue the legacy of adult education pioneers like Sagan and Ross from the late '70s, propelling our society beyond expectations.

Thank You!
